Atlanta's 1887 Exposition in Piedmont Park #history

Entrance buildings built to the park
For a number of years, Expositions were held around the country to help promote cities and new products.  The Piedmont Exposition opened on October 10, 1887 and had 20,000 visiters the first day. Important persons of the day gave speeches, included Governor Gordon,  Honorable Samuel Randall of Pennsylvania, Governor David B. Hill of New York and President Grover Cleveland!
The exhibits included art, local, raw materials and wood work.  My grandmother described the location in Piedmont Park as a charming arena of restaurants lit by street lights around the lake.  The total attendance was about 200,000 persons, a fair amount for the population of Atlanta in that era.
