Mayor Robert F. Maddox, the son of Colonel Robert F. Maddox, served 1909 to 1910, buried in Oakland Cemetery. At the expiration of his first term, while being offered reelection without opposition, Mr. Maddox declined, as he felt it necessary to devote his time to his business and personal affairs. He was presented by the citizens of Atlanta a large and beautiful silver service. During his administration was the first large issue of bonds, amounting to $3,000,0000.00 which built twelve new schools, a modern sewage disposal plant, a crematory for garbage, the establishment of Battle Hill Sanatorium for the treatment of tuberculosis and an addition to Grady Hospital.
