Kimball House

When the Atlanta Hotel was burned in 1864, plans were underway to construct a more impressive hotel. The Kimball House was constructed in 1870 (left) and was located on Pryor Street between Decatur and Wall Streets. A fire started by a cigar-smoker in 1883 burned the hotel down.  The next Kimball House was made "fire-proof" and included 7 floors and 31 stores.  This beautiful hotel served Atlanta until 1959 when it was razed.
