Coal Deliveries to the Home

This  is what coal looks like!  During the 1940's coal was still delivered to Atlanta homes to heat the furnace. We had an old coal furnace in the basement of 951 Edgewood Avenue.  A truck came to the house and opened a window-shute which sent the coal to the basement . In those days, us children went downstairs with our coal buckets and shovered it up.  It was a necessary chore but the coal fired up the furnace heating the house. I do not recall anything being dirty about the heat circulating throughtout the house. It was a way of life that that time in history.
