Atlanta Crackers

Spiller Field in old Ponce de Leon Park was the home field of minor league baseball in Atlanta from 1924 to 1932. The Atlanta Crackers paid here for almost six decades. In 1907 the team was in the Southern Association, which ended in 1959. I recall attending games in this park walking through wooden corridors and sitting in wooden stands. The bleachers were always full of excitement and drama. The location  was 650 Ponce de Leon Avenue at North Avenue. During these years there was also a popularly attended skating rink.
