Whitehall Inn: Charner Humphries

Charner Humphries built and operated Whitehall Inn in what is now known as West End, between Lee Street and the Central of Georgia Railroad. Charner Humphries was a short man, about five feet eight inches high, but rather stout and thick set.  The Inn was a two story house set a little way back from the front fence. Between the Inn and the front fence was a well so that a man could draw up a bucket of water from either side of the fence. Charner Humphries died April 4, 1855 and was buried in Westview Cemetery.
