Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

Shrine of the Immaculate conception in 1875, located on the corner of Hunter and Loyd Streets (now Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Central Avenue). The original church was first built on this site in 1848 and was saved from destruction by General Sherman because Father Thomas O'Reilly went out to plead that it not be burned.
